Also, if you want a lot better than 1moa consistently, you likely wont find it with factory ammo.Ive shot several deer with it and got a buck of a life time in Eastern Alberta last fall, 7x9 mulie buck. When Ive been on custom gun builder sights alot of them advertise having your rifle accurized, and Ive herd them talk about accurzing on some shooting shows too,and how it can greatly improve the accuracy of your production rifle. My question is has anybody had work done too there vanguardDid it improve the accuracy Any opinions or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
If it will make a good shooting rifle shoot great then Im going to have my gun accurzied. ![]() The other thing is to replace the trigger unless you are super happy with it the way it is. I like Timney triggers and have one in my Vanguard S1, same rifle just an older model. If you have problems with installing the new stock you can ask for help here and someone will more than likely assist you. I wouldnt bother with the hand lapping of the barrel or blue printing of the action.overrated. I suppose it depends on what they define as blue printing. You can lap the recoil lugs and have the action face trued up. Im not sure it is worth the money, but it isnt extremely expensive. When it comes to pillar beddingglass bedding.I think you need to decide if it is worth doing those items to the factory S2 stock. It isnt a bad synthetic stock, but I would lean towards purchasing a more premium synthetic stock if I were going to do those two things (like the post above states). I am going to install a Brown Precision stock on mine, but they are SPENDY - around 700. Im not a fan of the monte carlo stock style - again.just a personal preference. If you are going to stick with the factory stock, you might consider using a product called Synthetic Stock Stabilizer by Terminal Ballistic Research. It basically fills in the voids in the forend of the factory stock and makes it a stiffer platform. I put a Timney trigger in my S2 and I like it - the factory trigger isnt terrible, but I prefer a non-two stage trigger. Personal preference on the trigger I suppose - you need to elongate the rear of the safety lever slot slightly with a Dremmel (lesson learned) if you install a Timney. If youre shooting around 1 groups.none of the above items is likely to get you to 12 groups. They might.but they might not. Start with the cheapeasy stuff first and then decide if youre satisfied. My father has been a gunsmith for 30 years and Ive seen people do many of the items you describe - some worth the money, some not. You really need to decide what amount of money you want to spend and your accuracy expectations. Id be amazed if you can find an accurizing service who will guarantee even that, much less better than that. If you had a 3 grouping Rem700 I might see spending he money, but in this case, as has been stated, youre not going to gain much. If you want better accuracy, swapping o a BC Medalist stock is a great first step, but you may gain nothing.
